Board is run by Creedus Group Limited, a company registered in New Zealand. Write to hello@board.gallery about anything on this page.
Board puts photos from the creators you follow on your Chrome new tab. Following creators needs no account. Board for Chrome has no access to the websites you visit, and what you search, the sites you visit most and your bookmarks never leave your computer.
What stays on your computer
Board for Chrome asks Chrome for these, and uses them only on your new tab:
- The sites you visit most and their icons (topSites, favicon), to draw your shortcut tiles, and the changes you make to them.
- Your bookmarks (bookmarks), only if you turn on the bookmarks bar, on your first new tab or in Board settings, when Chrome asks you, to draw the bar.
- The search box (search): what you type goes to your own search engine through Chrome, as it does from Chrome’s own new tab. Board never sees it.
- Board’s settings, whom you follow and their photos (storage, unlimitedStorage), so new tabs show photos without internet for up to 30 days, and a timer (alarms) to look for new photos about every 30 minutes.
None of this is sent to Board or anyone else. Those are all of Board for Chrome’s permissions, besides replacing your new tab page.
What Board’s server knows
When Board for Chrome is added, it makes a random number for this browser. It isn’t made from anything about you or your computer, and it isn’t shared with anyone. Against it, Board keeps whom this browser follows, so it can send their photos; what it likes and reports, so a like counts once and can be taken back; and that it asked for new photos today. Creators never see who follows them or who likes their photos.
On board.gallery, looking at a creator’s page stores nothing. The first time you like or report a photo there, this browser gets a random number of its own in the same way. The page also remembers, in this browser, what you liked and, for a week, whose photos you asked to get, so adding Board can finish following them. A report goes to Board with the photo and what you wrote; the creator isn’t told who sent it.
If you sign in on board.gallery in a Chrome that has Board for Chrome, Board links that browser’s number to your account, so your follows go with you and your own looks and likes are never counted.
What Board counts
Board counts how it is used without recording who you are. Board for Chrome sends: that it was added; that its first new tabs opened; whether it was still opening new tabs a day, a week and two weeks later; and how many times each photo filled a new tab, as one total per photo, once a day. Each count carries this browser’s random number so it is counted once; Board checks the number and keeps only the day’s total, without it. A press on a creator’s own link, beside their name or in Following, is counted as the page’s presses below are, with no number at all.
On a creator’s page at board.gallery, Board counts each visit, each press of Add to Chrome, each press on the creator’s own link and each link emailed from a phone, and, when Board is added after a visit there, that one install came from that page: totals for the page each day. No cookie goes with them and nothing says who you are. Your IP address is used only in a scrambled form that changes daily, to stop one computer being counted over and over. Creators see these totals in Stats. If you publish photos, Board also counts each photo you add and each time you publish.
The “Email me the link” email
On a phone, a creator’s page can email you its link, so you can open it on your computer. Board sends that one email through Resend and doesn’t store your address. It keeps only a count of how many were sent each day, and limits that stop too many going to one address or from one network, kept under a code that changes every day and can’t be traced back to you after two days. Resend keeps the address in its delivery log, under its own privacy policy.
If you publish photos
Board is invite only for now. If you ask for access, Board keeps your email address and when you asked, to email you when you’re in, and emails your address to Board’s founder so they can let you in. If Board’s founder emails you an invite, Board keeps when it went, never your address.
Signing in needs your email address, which is used only to send the link you sign in with. Board keeps your address at board.gallery, your link if you add one, your photos and their captions, and when you confirmed the photos are your own. Photos are prepared on your device before they upload: location and camera data are taken out, and file names are never sent. A cookie keeps you signed in.
What you publish is public: your photos, captions, address and link show at board.gallery/yourname and on your followers’ new tabs. You appear in Find creators only if you turn on Show me on Find creators.
If you remove Board
Chrome opens board.gallery/bye when Board is removed. Its address carries Board’s version and roughly how long you had it, and nothing that identifies you or your browser. Answering is optional. What you send, a reason and a note of up to 280 characters, is kept with the day it was sent and nothing else. Notes are deleted after 180 days; the counts stay.
To stop the same answer being sent again and again, Board keeps a scrambled form of your IP address that changes every day and can’t be traced back after two days.
Who runs Board for us
- Vercel runs board.gallery, and keeps its own request logs, with IP addresses and page addresses, for its own retention period (privacy policy).
- Turso holds Board’s database (privacy policy).
- Resend sends sign-in emails, the email saying you’re in, invites Board’s founder emails, “Email me the link”, and the email telling Board’s founder of a request for access, and keeps each address it sends to in its delivery log (privacy policy).
Nothing is sold. Nothing goes to advertisers, data brokers or credit reference agencies. Board’s use of the data it collects follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Deleting your data
Removing Board from Chrome deletes its random number and everything it kept on your computer. What Board’s server recorded against that number stays, and points to nobody.
If you publish photos, Delete account in Account settings deletes your account, your photos, your page and everything counted for them, at once. Or write to hello@board.gallery.
You can also ask to see or correct the personal information Board holds about you: write to hello@board.gallery.
